The Old Lion and The Fox Story

Once there lived an old Lion in a cave, whose teeth and claws were so worn that it was not so easy for him to get food as in his younger days, pretended that he was sick. He took care to let all his neighbors know about it, and then lay down in his cave to wait for visitors. And when they came to offer him their sympathy, he ate them up one by one.

The Fox came too, but he was very cautious about it. Standing at a safe distance from the cave, he inquired politely after the Lion’s health. The Lion replied that he was very ill indeed, and asked the Fox to step in for a moment. But Master Fox very wisely stayed outside, thanking the Lion very kindly for the invitation.

“I should be glad to do as you ask,” He added, “but I have noticed that there are many footprints leading into your cave and none coming out. Pray tell me, how do your visitors find their way out again?”

Moral: Take warning from the misfortunes of others.

The Kind King and the Greedy Gatekeeper

Once there lived a renounce king in his kingdom. He was fond of fish. He had many ponds in his kingdom and all the ponds were full of fish. One day he arranged a feast for his birthday. He ordered to a fisherman to bring a big fish from the pond. The fisherman brought the big fish for the king. While he enters the kingdom the gatekeeper stopped him. The gatekeeper said that I can allow you if you give me half of your fees.

The fisherman agreed with the gatekeeper. The king was very happy to get the fish. He asked the price of that giant fish. The fisherman replied one hundred silver coins. The king was astonished. But he ordered his chief minister to give him hundred silver coins.

When the fisherman had got hundred silver coins, he said, Your Majesty! I have a partner with this dealing. So fifty coins will go to him. The minister asked who is that person. It is the kingdom’s gate keeper. The king understood that and he paid to the gatekeeper fifty coins. After that he was dismissed due to his greed.

Moral: Greed is a curse.

Arab and His Camel

There lived an Arab in a desert of Rajastan. He had a camel. He used his camel moving around the desert for total day. He always stays with his temporary tent house. It was a cold night the Arab lay asleep inside the tent while the camel stood outside.

At midnight the camel awoke his master and requested him to allow him to put his head inside the tent as it was bitter cold outside. The Arab allowed him to do so. After a while again camel proposed his master if he might put his neck inside the tent. The Arab did not object to do it. 

Again the camel requested his owner to allow him to bring his front legs inside. The Arab agreed with his camel. Now the camel stood completely inside the twit but as there was not enough for both of them. So the camel pushed the Arab outside to stay in cold.

Moral: Give an inch and they will take an ell.

The Ass, The Cock, and The Lion

Once there lived a cock in a village. One fine morning an ass came to him. He started talking about his foods. He told to the cock that he can get enough food under the tree. The cock said yes we can share that food each other. They became friends.

Suddenly, a lion came there. Seeing the cock and ass there lion said, “I don’t need to search food far and wide. My next meals can be ready if I can hunt one of them.

Seeing the lion, the cock flew on to a branch of the tree and boasted in fear. Hearing this strange sound, the lion got scared and ran away from that place. The ass thought that the lion was frightened of him. He started following him. He didn’t realize that it was the cock’s boast that had scared the lion.

When the lion and the ass went out of hearing of the cock, the lion thought may be the ass feared with the same. Thinking like this he turned back. He saw the ass is following behind him. He pounced upon the ass and killed him.

Moral: False confidence often leads into danger.

Lion and Mouse Short Story

It was a hot summer day. Sun was shining bright up in the sky. The lion king was sitting under the shade of a big tree and later got asleep. Nearby that tree, there was a hole, in which there lived a mouse. When the lion was sleeping, the mouse came out of its hole and saw him asleep.

Unaware of the lion’s strength, it got tickled by an idea. It thought of waking up the lion by running over his body just for fun. Unfortunately, the lion seized it in his strong paw. The mouse pleaded for its life. Being generous by nature, the lion set it free. The mouse promised to help the lion if it ever got the chance. The lion laughed aloud at this. After all, how could a tiny mouse help the king of the jungle?

A few days later, the mouse was passing through the jungle when he saw the same lion trapped in a hunter’s net. Immediately, it set to work, gnawing at the ropes. Very soon the tiny mouse had set the lion free.

Moral: Mercy never goes unrewarded.

Dog and The Donkey Story

Once upon a time there lived a dog and a donkey in a master's house in a village. The dog guarded his house and the donkey carried loads for him to the market. It was a hot afternoon. The dog was sleeping under the shady veranda. There was some noise outside. The dog just lifted up his head and went back to sleep.

The donkey asked, “Why don’t you bark. It could be thieves”. The dog replied, “Mind your own business”. But the donkey would not listen. He wanted to save his master from thieves. He started to bray.

The master who was sound asleep got wild with the donkey and came running out with a stick and gave hard beatings to the donkey.


MORAL: IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO MIND OUR OWN BUSINESS.

Queen Sheba and The Monkey - Mothers Love Has No Equals

Once there lived a queen named Sheba in a kingdom. There was a jungle near to that kingdom. So Sheba, called the queen of jungle. Because she was very fond of babies. Once, she announced, “I order all animals to come to my palace with their babies. The animal who has the most beautiful baby will be rewarded a prize.”

All animals came to Sheba’s palace with their babies. Sheba was inspecting. She came to a monkey and said “What an ugly baby! You will not get the prize.

The baby monkey started to cry. The monkey said. “What a foolish queen she is! Who wants her prize! You are my jewel, my dear child. You are more precious than anything the sky”.

Moral: Mother's love has no equals.

The rabbit and his friends

Once there lived a rabbit in a forest. He was always in the company of some other animal of that forest. He was friendly with all of them.

Once, the rabbit heard a pack of hunting dogs running in the forest. He was afraid that they would catch him. He ran to a deer and said, my dear brother, I hear a pack of hunting dogs in the forest nearby. Please save me. You have such sharp antlers. You can thrash them. Please help me. The deer replied, I am sorry my friend. I am too busy to help you in this time. Then he ran away from the place.

The rabbit ran to many of his friend the bear, the monkey, the zebra and even the panther. They all gave the same reply. Finally, the tired rabbit met a mongoose and told his pathetic story. The mongoose said my friend why are you sad? Please get into our hole and stay inside till the pack of dogs leaves this area. You shall be safe. After the rabbit went happily.

Moral of this Story: A friend in need is a friend in-deed.

LION AND THE SLAVE STORY FOR KIDS

Once there lived a rich man in a town. He had a slave. The man was very cruel to him every time. So the slave became sick of his cruel treatment. He decided to run away from his master. He got a chance and ran away to nearest forest. There was a cave and he hides himself in a cave. As he lay there and thinking his master. At that time he heard the groaning of the lion.

He was frightened. As the lion came near to the cave, he saw that he was limping. The lion approached the slave and held out his paw. The slave saw that his paw was swollen and a thorn was stuck in it. The slave drew out the thorn very gently. The lion was relieved of pain and went away. Afterwards they became friends.

Many days passed away. By chance the slave was arrested by his master's men. He was brought to his master who ordered his men to put him before a hungry lion. The day for punishment was fixed.

The people of the town were invited to see the wonderful fight between the lion and the slave. The lion was freed from the cage to pounce upon the slave when he recognized him. He now advanced slowly towards him and began to lick his hands out of love. It was the same lion, his friend. The slave too, patted him.

It was a wonderful sight for the people. The lion was given to him as a reward. The slave was set free.

Moral: Kindness is always rewarded.

THE MILK MAID’S DREAM

Once there lived milkmaid in a small village. She was carrying a pot of milk and taking it to the market everyday. She had to deliver milk to her customers in a nearby market. As she was walking, she kept on dreaming.

She said to himself, “With the money I get from selling this milk, I will buy some eggs. The eggs will hatch into fine chicken. The chicken will grow into hens. I will sell the hens and get lot of money. With that money I will buy nice silk saris. 

I will look beautiful. When people ask for the secret of my wealth, I will toss my heard and say, “No”. When she dreams of saying ‘No’ She actually tossed her head and down fell the pot of milk and all the milk ran out on the ground.

MORAL: BUILDING CASTLES IN AIR WILL NOT STAND
