Two Beautiful Parrots and A Monkey in the palace

Once upon a time there lived a handsome parrot with its younger brother in a forest. His beak and wings were very beautiful. Both were living happily in the forest. One day, a hunter came to the forest. and saw the pair of the parrots sitting on the branches of a oak tree. He thought, ‘these parrots are very beautiful and special. I will present them to my king,’ He spread his net in the jungle to catch them. Soon both the parrots were trapped.

He kept them in a cage and went to the palace. He said to the king, "O king, see this beautiful pair of parrots. I caught them in the deep forest. Seeing their beauty I decided to bring them to you. They will add to the beauty of your palace." The king was very happy. He gave one thousand coins to the hunter. He kept both the parrots in a golden cage and ordered his servants to look after them well.

The parrots were looked after very well. They were treated as very important birds in the palace. They were served fruits and delicious food. They became the center of attraction. Even the young prince came to play with them. The parrots were very happy. They got everything without any labor. The older parrot once said to his brother, "We are highly respected in the palace and hence, quite satisfied."

The younger brother replied, "You are right, we are getting royal treatment. It is our luck." One day, a hunter brought a black monkey named Kala Bahu. The monkey was presented to the king, who asked the attendants to keep the monkey in the courtyard. The king as well as the prince were very happy to see the monkey and his amusing activities. Soon the monkey became the center of attraction.

With the arrival of the monkey, the parrots were neglected. They sometimes did not even get food. Both of the parrots knew the cause of it. The older parrot was wise and hoped that the days would change again and one should not be depressed. He comforted his brother, "Nothing is permanent in this world. Have patience till the bad days are over."

One day the monkey performed such feats before the prince that he got scared and cried, "Help! Help!" Hearing his cries, all rushed there and took the prince away. When the king came to know about it, he ordered his men to leave the monkey in the forest. The next day, the monkey was sent to the forest. The bad days of the parrots were now over. They were treated well again. Good dishes and fruits were also served to them. They again became the center of attraction.

The wise parrot clarified the situation to his younger brother saying that time never remains the same, and one should not be depressed by the temporary unfavorable changes. The young parrot also realized the fact that nothing is permanent in the world and one should never lose patience.

Moral: Always wait for the good time and act wisely.

The Elephant and His Friend - Motivational Story

Once upon a time, there was a royal elephant that used to reside in the premises of the king’s palace. The elephant was very dear to the king, so he was cared, well-fed and well-treated. There was a Dog who used to live in the neighborhood of the Elephant shed. He was very weak and skinny. He was always fascinated by the smell of the rich sweet rice being fed to the royal elephant.

One day, the Dog could not resist the aroma of the rice and somehow, he sneaked into the Elephant’s shed. He ate the sweet rice that fell from the Elephant’s mouth. He liked the rice so much, that he started coming daily to eat the rice. For days, the huge Elephant didn’t notice the small dog as he was busy in enjoying the delicious food. Gradually, the Dog became bigger and stronger by eating such rich food. He came under the notice of the Elephant.

The Elephant used to enjoy the company of the Dog and started sharing his food with him. Both of them also
started sharing time with each other and soon, they made good friends. They ate together, slept together and played together. While playing, the Elephant would hold the Dog in his trunk and swing him back and forth. It didn’t take long, when neither of them was happy without the other. They became great friends and didn’t want to get separated from each other.

Then one day, a man saw the Dog and asked the Elephant-keeper, “I want to buy this Dog. What price do you seek for the Dog?” The Elephant-keeper didn’t own the Dog still he sold the Dog and extracted a sum of money out of this deal. The man took the Dog to his home village, which was quite far away. The King’s Elephant became very sad after this incident. He missed his friend a lot and started neglecting everything. He didn’t want to do anything without his dear friend, so stopped eating, drinking and even bathing.

Ultimately, the Elephant-keeper reported this to the King; however he didn’t tell anything about the Dog. The King had a wise minister, who was known for his understanding of animals. At once, the King asked the minister, “Go to the Elephant shed and find out the reason for the Elephant’s condition”. The intelligent minister went to the Elephant shed and found the Elephant very sad. He looked the Elephant all over and asked the Elephant-keeper, “There is nothing wrong with this Elephant’s body, then why does he look so sad? I think this Elephant is grief stricken, possibly due to the loss of a dear friend. Do you know if this Elephant shared a close friendship with anyone?”

The Elephant-keeper said, “There was a Dog who used to eat, sleep and play with the Elephant. He has been taken by a stranger three days ago”. The Minister asked, “Where is the Dog?” and he replied," I don’t know”. The minister went back to the King and said, “Your majesty, as per my opinion, the royal Elephant is not sick, but he is lonesome without his dear friend, the Dog”. The King said, “You’re right, friendship is one of the most wonderful things of life. Do you know where that Dog is?”

The Minister replied, “Elephant-keeper has informed that a stranger took him away and he didn’t know about his whereabouts”. The King asked, “How can we bring back my Elephant’s friend and make him happy again?” The Minister suggested, “Your Majesty, make a declaration, that whoever has the dog that used to live at the royal Elephant’s shed will be penalized”. The King did the same and the man who took the dog, instantly turned him loose when he heard the proclamation.

When got free, the Dog ran back as fast as he could to reach the Elephant’s shed. The Elephant was so delighted to see the Dog that he picked his friend with his trunk and made him sit on his head. The Dog waved his tail, while the Elephant’s eyes sparkled with happiness. The King was contented to see the happy Elephant once again. He also rewarded the minister for his wise judgment. Both, the Elephant and the Dog lived happily thereafter.

The Clever Fox and The Talking Cave Story

Once upon a time, there lived an old lion in a forest. Due to his health it was unable to kill any prey for his food. So, he said to himself, I must do something to stay my stomach else I will die soon. He kept thinking and at last an idea came to his mind. He decided to lie down in the cave pretending to be ill and then whosoever will come to inquire about his health, will become his prey. The old lion put his wicked plan into practice and it started working. Many of his well-wishers got killed. But it was the time for a fox. 

One day, the fox came to visit the ailing lion. As foxes are clever by nature, the fox stood at the mouth of the cave and looked about. He saw some bones are laying outside the cave. So, he called out to the lion from outside and said, Oh my dear majesty how are you and how do you feel now?

The lion replied, “I am not feeling well at all. But why don’t you come inside and see me for a moment?” Then the fox replied, I would love to come in, my majesty! But on seeing, all footprints going to your cave and none coming out, I would be foolish enough to come in. Saying so, the fox went to alert the other animals. In this way he saved his life and also other animals from that forest too.

Moral: Always keep your eyes open and stay alert before walking in any situation.

Once upon a time, there lived a poor Brahmin in a small village. He used to work hard in the fields, but could not get the result out of it. One day, after the tiring working hours, he laid down in the shade of the tree. He saw a snake coming towards him. He went to bring some milk and offered the milk to the serpent. The snake was very happy and it gave a gold coin to the Brahmin. This became a regular feature of Brahmin’s life. Daily he served milk to the snake and get a gold coin.

One day Brahmin got fever and he asked his son to take care of the serpent. The son brought the milk to the spot and offered it to the serpent. Next day, when he came back found a gold coin in the bowl. After taking the gold coin, he thought, “This place must be full of gold coins. I would kill the snake and take them all”. Brahmin’s son decided to kill and next day came to the field with the milk and a stick. He offered the milk to the snake and struck its hood with the stick. The snake escaped the blow of the stick and bit the boy.

Some days later, the Brahmin returned to his village and came to know about the death of his son. He came across the whole incident and again went to the field to serve the milk to the serpent. He praised the snake in a loud voice and kept the milk near the tree and said please forgive me. The snake came out of no where and gave lot of coins to the Brahmin and said never come me again. You gave me milk but I bit your son because he stuck me with a stick. I am sorry. Stay healthy and be happy with these coins. Saying this snake disappeared from the place.

Moral: Excess of greed is harmful.

Once there lived a crow in a tree near to a village. One day morning it had snatched a piece of cheese out of a window and flew with it into a high tree. By chance a fox happened met the crow. The fox thought of that piece and thus he planned to get with his approaches. 

"Oh My dear how beautiful are your wings! How bright shine eye! How graceful thy neck! How beautiful voice you have I want to listen your voice dear. You are the queen of all the birds."

The Crow pleased with the flattery and chuckling to think how she would surprise the Fox with her voice. As she opened her mouth; down dropped the cheese which the Fox snapping up, observed, as he walked away, that whatever he had remarked of her beauty, he had said nothing yet of her brains. 

Moral: Flattery without some private end in view; and they who listen to such things expect to have to pay the precious things.

The lion killed the donkey. But, before eating, he felt so thirsty. He said to the jackal, “Take care of the donkey. I will return in no time”. As soon as the lion left, the jackal started eating the brain of the donkey. When the lion returned he found the donkey’s brain missing.

He asked the jackal, “Where is the donkey’s brain?” The jackal answered timidly, “If he had a brain would he have come here?”
